How to Keep Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate Dry During the Rainy Season

Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate is highly hygroscopic and prone to caking or even deliquescence in high-humidity environments. The key to maintaining dryness lies in moisture barriers and environmental control.

1. Packaging Protection (The First Line of Defense)

  • Double-Layer Sealing: Ensure the use of double-layer packaging consisting of a PE (polyethylene) plastic inner liner and a woven outer bag. The inner liner must be heat-sealed or tightly tied to prevent moisture penetration.

  • Pallet Elevation: Goods must never be placed directly on the floor. Use wooden or plastic pallets to elevate the product at least 20 cm off the ground to block capillary moisture from the floor.

  • Stretch Wrapping: During the rainy season, consider wrapping entire pallets with stretch film to add an extra physical waterproof layer.

2. Warehouse Environmental Control

  • Storage Location: Store Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate in a cool, ventilated, and dry warehouse. Choose locations with higher terrain that are not prone to water accumulation.

  • Window Management: Keep doors and windows tightly closed during rainy or foggy weather to prevent external humidity from entering. Only ventilate briefly when the outdoor humidity is lower than the indoor humidity (typically on sunny afternoons).

  • Spacing Requirements: Maintain a gap of 30–50 cm between stacks and walls to prevent impact from wall seepage or condensation.

3. Physical and Mechanical Dehumidification

  • Industrial Dehumidifiers: Equip the warehouse with high-capacity industrial dehumidifiers to keep the relative humidity (RH) below 60%.

  • Desiccant Aids: Place quicklime, silica gel desiccants, or calcium chloride moisture absorbers in warehouse corners or around stacks to help absorb residual air moisture.

4. Stock Management

  • FIFO (First-In, First-Out): Strictly implement the FIFO principle to minimize the storage duration of the material and reduce the risk of moisture exposure.

  • Regular Inspection: Increase inspection frequency during the rainy season. Check for damaged packaging or signs of floor dampness, and address any moisture issues immediately.

5. Transport Protection

  • Rain Covers: Use high-quality, intact tarpaulins during transportation and ensure they are securely fastened.

  • Vehicle Condition: Before loading, check the vehicle floor to ensure it is dry and free of leaks.
